Series :: "Passages"
Read about this series.
While traveling in Britain I discovered a primitive medieval labyrinth in the earth made of brick. Another time I visited Chartres Cathedral in France and saw the famous huge labyrinth in the stone floor where humans have walked it for centuries. I was moved to work on a series by the image of the labyrinth. To be experienced a labyrinth needs to be walked or if a small image in a book, traced with a finger. It symbolizes slowing down, going within, centering. On a later trip to New Mexico I discovered the Man in the Maze design woven into a Native American Basket. It struck me that it was not a maze but a labyrinth, and two cultures with no access to each other found the same significance in this design. The title “Passages” came to me as I worked.
